LessonsPiano lessons for the 2022-2023 year begin August 15 and continue through the month of May. The lessons are 40 or 60 minutes in length depending on the level of the student.
In addition to weekly lessons, the students also participate in recitals and a music festival. The year ends with a community service project, where the students present “fun” solos and duets to residents at a nursing home. Lessons cover many fundamentals, the most important being: |
1. Developing a strong sense of rhythm and pulse
2. Playing with ease and efficiency
3. Reading notes and rhythms fluently
4. Understanding the logic and beauty of the melody, harmony and phrasing (musical analysis)
This fourth goal is the one LuAnn feels most passionate about. Using her advanced degree in music theory, she teaches every student to analyze their music, which allows them to memorize easily and to make wise decisions about interpretation.

Lesson MaterialsThe choice of materials and the pace of the lessons are individually tailored to each person. Classics, pop, jazz and hymns are included. LuAnn’s ultimate goal, once the student acquires the skills to play a particular piece, is for them to express themselves personally and creatively, while also communicating the composer’s ideas.
